Ayurveda Meditation

Meditation is very beneficial for not only the mind, but also the body. In Ayurveda we call it Dhyana Chikitsa or meditation as therapy because meditation has the power to heal us in many ways and on many levels. It calms and relaxes. It centers us. It allows us to decompress and connect to a higher state of consciousness.

Developing a meditation practice can be difficult. But as Maya Tiwari says in her book “The Path of Practice: A Woman’s Book of Ayurvedic Healing”: “It may be hard at first to honor your promise, but soon enough you’ll experience some results, and that will reinforce your commitment.”

Chakra Meditation

In this Ayurveda meditation audio recording, you will be led through a 15 minute Chakra Meditation practice. This is not only a meditation practice but also a mantra practice. When we practice Chakra Meditation we utilize sound, breath and awareness by inhaling and silently reciting the mantra for each chakra on the exhalation.

There are 7 main chakras. Chakra translates to “circle” in Sanskrit. The chakras are energy centers of the body. The 1st chakra is the Muladhara chakra located at the base of the spine and its mantra is LAM. The 2nd chakra is the Svadhisthana chakra located at the reproductive organs and its mantra is VAM. The 3rd chakra is the Manipura chakra located at the navel and its mantra is RAM. The 4th chakra is the Anahata chakra located at the heart and its mantra is YAM. The 5th chakra is the Vishuddha chakra located at the throat and its mantra is HAM. The 6th chakra is the Ajna chakra located at the third-eye and its mantra is KSHAM. The final chakra is the Sahasrara chakra located on the crown of the head and its mantra is OM.

Practicing a mantra meditation like this Chakra Meditation, can be very transformative and it helps to propel us forward in our meditation practice. Just sitting down and trying to clear the mind is not attainable for most people. Our minds are filled with thoughts that are racing by. This makes meditation frustrating for many because they feel like they are doing it incorrectly. Mantras are the way to prepare the mind for meditation. They focus the mind on the words and sounds of the mantra rather than your fleeting thoughts. Now follow along as you are led through the Ayurvedic meditation technique of Chakra Meditation.
