Featured Ayurvedic Recipe: Saffron Rice

Saffron Rice

Ingredients:
Generous pinch of saffron
1 tbsp filtered water
1 cup basmati rice
2 cups filtered water
1 tbsp ghee (optional)
5 green cardamom pods
5 whole cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1 bay leaf
¼ tsp ground turmeric
¼-½ tsp salt

Directions:
1. In a small dish, combine the 1 tbsp filtered water and saffron and let sit for 10-20 minutes.

2. Cook ghee to a medium pot over medium heat. Then add the cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and bay leaf. Stir, and cook until fragrant.

3. Add the rice and stir until coated.

4. Add the water, saffron water, turmeric, and salt and turn heat to high. Bring water to boil, then cover, turn heat to low, and cook for 20 minutes.
