Shivalinga Mudra

Shivalinga Mudra

Shivalinga Mudra is the mudra or gesture of energy and transformation. The right hand makes a “thumbs up” sign and rest in the left hand which is shaped like a bowl. Make sure the fingers of your left hand are touching. Your hands should rest in front of your abdomen at the site of the manipura or solar plexus chakra. The thumb represents this chakra as well as the fire element associated with pitta, the dosha of digestion, absorption, assimilation and transformation.

The right side of our body, including our hand represents our masculine side, the solar or energizing side of ourselves and our body. The left side represents our feminine side, the lunar or relaxing side of ourselves and our body. The thumb of the right hand symbolizes Shiva’s phallus or linga and is the Indian god of destruction and transformation. Shiva also embodies the possibility for new beginnings since they wouldn’t be possible without destruction. The Shivalinga mudra merges our Shiva and Shakti energies or our masculine and feminine energies.

Shiva is often called Shiva the Destroyer. Chanting to Shiva helps us to shed bad habits and attachments as well as purify and transform ourselves. The prime mantra of HUM is sacred to Shiva and it is a mantra for warding off negative influences and awakening Agni. Shiva is a useful deity in devotional meditation because Shiva rules over the subconscious and superconscious which helps us to overcome fear, anxiety and trauma.

Chant to Shiva

Shiva Shiva Shiva Shambo (Repeat 4x)
Maha Deva Shambo (Repeat 4x)

This mudra is used to combat fatigue, sluggishness and lethargy. It is beneficial when we are experiencing exhaustion from stress, anxiety and low-energy. Many times this mudra will be used in conjunction with other Ayurvedic healing practices to aid the healing process.

Healing light illuminates every cell of my body, dissolves everything that should be dissolved, and builds up what must be built up again. Thank you!

QOTD: "What is no longer serving you? What needs healing in your body, mind, or spirit? How can you best honor this process?" Unhealthy things aren't serving me, and they're even worse if I'm using them as some sort of comfort. I need to heal my body and my digestion not only of food but of negative and harmful impressions. I made a commitment to healing myself through Ayurveda and I can't believe how much it's helped already. I'm certainly not healed but I'm getting there. Changing my diet not only affected how my body felt but it's opened up my mind and awakened my spirit to explore more spiritual practices. It's made it easier to avoid unhealthy things because I don't want to jostle the equilibrium I'm cultivating. I've also noticed that now that I've been clearing out toxins in my body, my mind is ready to start detoxifying. I notice negative emotional reactions bubbling up and I am more able to step back and view situations clearly. I'm learning how to use the tools of yoga and Ayurveda to combat negativity, anxiety, sadness, worry and guilt
