Ksepana Mudra

Ksepana Mudra is the mudra of letting go. Interlace all of your fingers and extend your index fingers and allow them to touch. This mudra has playfully been called the “Charlie’s Angels” mudra since it resembles the hand gesture the women in “Charlie’s Angels” use. To aid in the process of letting go, allow your index fingers to point towards the earth or towards your feet if you are supine. When you practice this mudra, focus on your exhalations and allow the breath and the mudra to enhance the feeling of letting go.

Ksepana mudra is associated with apana vayu or the downward moving energy. Apana vayu controls the energy of elimination, urination, and menstruation. This mudra is believed to stimulate elimination not only through the large intestine but also the skin via perspiration and the lungs via exhalation. In Ayurveda, the mala or waste products of the body include urine, feces, sweat, tears, exhaled breath and dreams. This mudra has an affinity for eliminating mala from the body and mind.

This mudra is also traditionally used to release and eliminate tension in the body as well as the mind. Many times there is negative energy that swirls around us. If we aren’t careful we can absorb this energy, particularly if our own energy reserves are depleted. This mudra allows negative energy to flow through us. It can be released without absorbing or assimilating any of this harmful energy. This mudra also allows us to receive new wellsprings of positive energy.

I know recently I've been much more cognizant of the negativity around me. Through my study of Ayurveda and its impact on the mind, I've learned that we digest things around us just like we do food. We have to eliminate waste just like we do negative impressions. I know I wasn't working on eliminating the negative impressions I was encountering. It can be difficult not to let other people's negativity affect us. I know personally I would let it ruin my day or keep negative people around me when I needed to let the friendship dissolve. I've taken an active approach to eating a healthy diet and now I take an active approach to staying positive and keep positive people around me. I feel so much happier, healthier and more positive. I'm so grateful to have this new understanding of how to make my life better.

Spent energy in my body, mind, and soul flows away from me, and I thankfully accept all things that refresh me.

QOTD: "How do you protect your personal energy and what do you do to replenish and restore it" I replenish and restore my energy with yoga, meditation, chanting mantra, living mindfully, healthy, nourishing food and spending time with those I love! I am definitely replenishing right now at the lake. Swimming, canoeing, riding on the boat, and spending time with my family and my partner-in-crime. Life is beautiful right now.
